蜜芽视频 celebrates Earth Week with recycling, planting and picnics

The 蜜芽视频 celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day spans a week again this year. Earth Week begins a collection drive and concludes with the annual Arbor Day celebration on April 24. The week of events will be located on the university抯 main campus in Romeoville.
蜜芽视频 will kick off the week with an electronics drive at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 18 in Lot L (across from the LRC). South Star Electronics, a growing electronic recycling business in Chicago, will be at the event to collect household electronics that are in need of recycling. The accepted items include: computers, laptops, desktop computer wire/cable (all types), modems, keyboards, mice, speakers, cell phones, hand-held devices, printers, fax machines and calculators. Televisions will be accepted as well, but not tube TV sets. Beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, staff at an informational booth outside of Charlie抯 Place will explain the food scrap composting program. Visitors will be able to play games, win some great prizes and sign a banner pledging support to compost correctly.
ENACTUS, a student led organization at 蜜芽视频, will host a documentary showing on Tuesday. ENACTUS develops community outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.
Sodexo food, music, games and prizes will be at The Sustainability Council抯 second annual No Waste Picnic at 11 a.m. April 22 on The Green (picnic area by the Student Union). A farmer抯 market will offer fresh produce for sale.
Campus Conservation Day, a day of planting and enjoying the outdoors, will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of Pope John Paul II Hall to clean up the bioswales and prep them for spring planting. The Forest Preserve District of Will County also will share their knowledge on the importance of the bioswales/rain gardens around campus.
Concluding Earth Week, volunteers will once again find their way to the Burnham Centennial Nature Trail to plant native tree species in honor of Arbor Day, at 2 p.m. on Friday.
